Where would you rather be (this Christmas)?

December 10, 2002

Some say that there is a place, one place, where the heart longs to be. Perhaps the cares of life blur the clarity of the desire, especially in this season of holidays and cheer. The trimmings shine; the gifts beckon, and the demands of tradition sweep us in a maddening swirl of perhaps senseless bustle. Thus we never see the true meaning of why we celebrate on the first place……nor realize where would we rather be.

Where would we rather be? Is it here, or is it elsewhere? Are you where you want to be but at the wrong time, or would you rather turn back time and return where you would have rather been? Are you where would you rather be? If you are not, then why are you there?

Is there true love oblivious of your intentions? It is time to reveal. Is there someone you have left, but know that there is no other person in the world you would rather be close to tonight? Perhaps you left for all the wrong reasons, or the noblest of goals. Yet your heart yearns, and pleads and bleeds. You would rather be someplace else. It may be the time to retract, and retrace, and relive the past you would have exchanged for the present.

Do you hear the ground groan for your return? Do you not miss the place where you grew, where you loved, where you blossomed? Does not the memory sting you, whenever a scent wisps by, or a tune rings in the distance? That place you called home is still there; awaiting patiently your return….for there is only one place where you would rather be.

So what are you waiting for? Go ahead; follow your heart. Follow it if you can…..

This will serve to at least stimulate you to keep up, keep reading, and realize that there is such a thing as evidence based medicine. You need to go to conferences not just to enjoy a drug company junket but also to actually learn.
